STUDYING THE WIND ROTOR

The operational process of the Mechanical Design department begins in close contact with the Aerodynamics section, which provides the maximum dimensions of the rotor, the forces acting on the structure, indications on the critical areas for aerodynamic efficiency. With the previous information, a preliminary sizing of the structure is carried out analytically, applying the static and fatigue verification methods from sector regulations. The modeling of the components on the Solidworks CAD software follows; the latter are implemented on Ansys Mechanical to perform finite element analyses, to definitively verify the structure statically and fatigue, also checking that the rotor does not operate in the natural frequency range. Once the structure has been validated, the technical tables are drawn up for commercial documentation purposes for quote requests

MATERIAL CHOICE

The Materials department operates at the level of bibliographic research and simulations with Ansys GRANTA; the aim is to use materials on the rotor that represent the best compromise between mechanical properties, lightness and costs. Feasible technological processes are also carried out within the department, compatibly with the equipment and rooms available; for example carbon lamination, woodworking, modifications of aluminum components.

We design and build specific components for the rotor with our Raise 3D Printer. The additive sector deals with design and building of specific components through our Raise 3D printer; we define a component design based on the production process selected, execute print tries with non final materials (PLA), correct the design to have an ultimate version, confront with Material sector for the choice material for the printing, execute prints of the components to add to the rotor.
